Fire Substation developed for the San Pasqual Band of Mission Indians, to replace a structure previously burned at this very location. Designed as fire-resistive shelters of structural heavy timber and exposed concrete for both the living quarters as well as the open carport, it sits elegantly on it’s hillside-site overlooking Lake Wohlford. The roof form also defines a form of defensive shield against future fires, directing and deflecting winds over the building’s envelop. The footprint and roof forms for both buildings reference indigenousness symbols representing Earth forces, their origin and the manner in which they work.
